I'd like to say this is no place for ignorance and stupid uneducated comments but its a Republican majority area..littered with wimpy Democrats..A very potent recipe for the conditions in Fulton and surrounding counties. ....2 people disagreed with this..LOL LOL LOL Thanks for proving my point!!LOL LOL

It's not the people that go to the trouble, expensive, time to get a pistol permit you need to worry about. It's the people buying guns off the street or stealing them that are the problem. Nothing in any new law or background check law will change any of that, but what the new "check" law will do is prevent anyone that does have guns that might be going thru a hard time currently for one reason or another from seeking help for fear of having the state police lets them know they have to give up their guns.

The safe gun act changed nothing to do with pistol permits and most of it hasn't even gone into effect yet. I've had people tell me they were issued unrestricted permits that is fact had restricted permits. If Fulton county is issuing unrestricted permits then I say good for them. It's about time.

RC883C:I know of at least 5 first time pistol permit holders in FC who were granted unrestricted permits since 2013. This is fact, not old time rules and regs. that you are referring to. Everything change with the Safe Gun Act. This is my final word on this one.......

Permits given in Fulton country are restricted. You can only carry your pistol fishing, hunting, camping, hiking and at a range or traveling to and from the above activities. This does not mean you can stop for dinner along the way. After a year you can request the issuing judge remove the restrictions.

this kind of "feel good" legislation does nothing to prevent future happenings. It just becomes another law broken somewhere along the way.

Threats like that have no place here. If that's what I've reduced you to either get better at expressing yourself or go somewhere else where you'll be less intimidated.

Yukon, there's power in knowing who has a gun??? I suppose you're right because that's one of the reasons I have guns. Now, what are you going to do with the power of knowing I have a gun????

Black powder pistols, whether original antique or replicas made from modern components are legally classified as 'antique' with the lack of regulations associated with that term. The exception lies in NYC. I have a replica 1848 Colt Dragoon .44 caliber Percussion Army Revolver that I'm not required to add to my permit. Messy to load and I can throw the d*mn thing more accurately than it shoots! Hope that helps Port.

If someone were standing on school property and stopped a madman using a gun, with a gun... they would be arrested as you cannot have a gun on school property. No matter how many people you save you are a criminal! And the all so common sense these days is wrong, altogether wrong. And yes Obama and our very own Cuomo have together caused the shortage of every kind of firearm and bullets that we see today. Firearm makers are working at full capacity to provide the products the buyers are demanding. How effective is the ban? It isn't as far as control but as far as sales it is effective, extremely effective. I would say that they have INCREASED the likelihood of shooting deaths due directly to their foolish actions and laws!

Wow, what a terrible tragedy. I'm also sick and tired of people using that 'insanity' card.

If this guy was so 'deranged' how was able to make the distinction that he was in fact approaching a police vehicle and not just a regular car?

There are very very few things in life that having "more" of something makes things better.More guns is not the answer.Armed guards at school is the most moronic and brain dead idea(typical NRA response) to the school shootings.Anything less then universal checks NO LOOPHOLES on all sales of arms is the only sensible start to this problem. There is power in knowing who has a gun and who shouldn't have one.

There is no one year rule that I have ever seen, what is the difference in a restricted and unrestricted pistol permit? You cannot walk around with a gun strapped to your leg like in the old west so conceal carry is the only permit that you can get no matter what you want to call it. In order to get an unrestricted permit all you have to do is ask and give a reason for it, thats all. None of these new laws will do anything at all to hinder a nut with a passion to kill. That sicko will find the means and already has the will to kill. A background check is just another hoop to jump through and unless you are certified nuts you are going to pass.

Sounds like your getting wrong information from someone. All permits in Fulton county are restricted for the first year and after that you have to get the issuing judge to remove the restrictions.

Did this deranged individual go out, buy a gun, then shoot the sherrif? Was he known to be deranged before this incident? If it was known, would it have been legal or ethical for a mental health professional to report it to someone? Or did this person happen to have access to a gun, legally possessed or not, and do something horrible with it? In any event, a background check wouldn't have done anythin to prevent this.

My feeling is that FC is too lenient with regard to granting pistol permits "without restrictions". Many young people are getting unrestricted permits right off the hop, and consequently, without a period for the novelty of owning a pistol to wear off, there are more guns on the street being carried by cowboy wannabees. I hope to heck that none of these people end up accidentally shooting themself or someone else.
