The minimum wage fine print is welcome news to me. I would rather see the funds come from all New York State tax payers than just property tax payers, as with the local share of social services. This actually is a degree of mandate relief for the property owner if in fact it leads to less being shelled out in property tax.

Not having business owners pony up and pay a higher wage is a Republican thing. And, the B.S. being pushed in the Cuomo TV ads about low tax rates in NYS doesn't include the highest property taxes in the nation, thanks to mandates with no relief.

Why in the world should taxpayers have to pay any part of the minimum wage increase? Ridiculous. Raise the price of your hamburgers by 3 cents to cover the cost. Government should not subsidize any business in any form. Let the free market do what it is supposed to do.

It would seem that in NYS there will only be minimum wage jobs now and in the future and taxpayers are going to pay the bill...again. The worth of a job is now decided by Govt., no skill, ability or other criteria required. That shiny new degree you just got equals a part-time minimum wage job, maybe. So, those of you who want everything equal, you got it, now try to live with it while you pay off that huge worthless student loan. Good luck, you're going to need it to compete for that minimum wage job with some idiot kid who cant spell his name.

Wow, every business in the state of New York will be married up with the state! Chavez used the military to do what the state is doing with legislation. New York is pulling a government motors act with everybody and every business in the state. Wait until you see how these monetary strings are used to dictate labor/business issues; welcome to the state union. Now welfare entitlement and earned wages will be governed under the same state programs. This is really bad for free people and enterprise.

Democrats have solidified their rein as now even business is in their pocket. Have you heard that there is other legislation coming that removes from office Sheriffs that refuse to enforce any state laws, including the NY Safe Act? Nearly every county Sheriff has stated their opposition to this infringement to the 2nd amendment. I bet that they will pass this law in the middle of the night like all of the other controversial legislation that they have passed. I wonder why people have an attitude these days? I believe that with business on the arm that the percentage of democrat voters just took an upswing... money talks... and I guess that the constitution is the poop part that goes walking!

Minimum Wage is a big joke. Is is just more feel good do nothing legislation. In most cases it increases the number of people making the minimum. And it only adds to the prices of the goods and services produced. In the end, those at the bottom are still at the bottom. Those just off the bottom lose to the increased cost. Let the free market to determine the Value of your worth.

So Glad I don't live in Gloversville. We have a city of 25,000 (17,000 in G'ville and 8,000 in J'town). There is no need for 2 ladder trucks in that city. Just more wasteful spending.

Scare, it's now obvious that in NYS the free market is NOT free and your value is determined by the State, nothing else.

Corporate Welfare= Subsidy. Social Welfare= Subsidy. If all are ended, business's and individuals are going to have to rely on themselves. Anybody really think that's going to happen in Amerika?

This minimum wage tax, just another reason for me to leave NYS when I retire in the next 2-3 years.

The real reason that the minimum wage increase was adopted was for the Democrats to give their big union supports a return for their support. Big union contracts are tied to the minimum wage so for every increase, the union rank-and-file get the corresponding pay raise.

That's right Laker, just as you turn a blind eye to progressives redistributing your wealth in the form of Social programs. In case you didn't know it, crap subsidies are used by both political parties to their advantage. TOT alluded to something the WH spokesman said about removing any Sheriff who does not uphold Federal (gun) Laws. Didn't the FED just spend millions on getting AZ Lawmen to IGNORE Fed. (immigration) Laws? Does this also extend to mean no more 'sanctuary cities'? Or, as with subsidies, keep the ones you like and demand getting rid of the ones you don't like.

I might as well add that every Sheriff in America has sworn to uphold the very same Constitution they are being told they have to break. I'm on my Sheriff's side.

Laker. This is one conservative who in fact says we need to end ALL of those subsidies. Oil Subsides, Agriculture, Ethanol, NPR, PBS, Amtrak, et al. Let the people decide what is important to them.

The “Freedom in the 50 States” study published last week by the libertarian-leaning Mercatus Center ranks New York last and California second to last. I guess you can't blame New Yorkers, do you think fish in a barrel have a clue either.

JEERS to upcoming wars. The current administration's mishandling of foreign affairs has us on the doorstep of war with North Korea and soon to be Iran as well. I just wonder who is to blame when this hits... can't be Obama. he never does anything wrong... he still walks on water and is just awesome... just awesome!

It's not a question of keeping the ones you "like", it's about keeping the ones that make sense. And re "redistributing wealth" Bob, that wasn't too successful over the last decade, as the middle class continues to shrink. I agree Scarecrow in that many subsidies should go, with big oil being the most absurd.

Laker, who gets to decide whats 'sensible'? That's exactly what I'm talking about and you just confirmed it when you picked 'Big Oil'. Ok, I get to pick no more subsidies for ANYONE. Make it or fail on your own...keep me, you and everybody else out of it. In Yellowstone Nat. Park there are signs detailing how, if you feed the wild animals, they will not be able to survive on their own, so the Federal Government demands you don't feed the animals. Hmmmm.
