The purpose of the sequester is to create the most pain on the population as possible so they can get back to their spending ways. The last thing they want is to lessen the pain.

This administration spends freely even NOW UNDER THE GOVERNMENT ENDING US ENDING sequester! Remember the president saying that we face a very imposing time due to cuts?? I believe he can wiggle around the cuts he does't want very well and those that he does want are going to go ahead unimpeded. It is going to hurt, but it is going to hurt those that are not supporters of his the most!

The average police officer earns around $55k, and firefighter $47k. The average pay of an air traffic controller is just short of $67 an hour, or $140k annually. I think I see the problem.

DaveGibson, I'd like to see your numbers, considering I'd bet a lot of that comes from overtime (see why below).

I once read that an air traffic controller at some airports is responsible for more lives in 1 hour than a surgeon in his entire career. It's an extremely difficult and stressful job, so much in fact that the FAA can't fill enough of the positions that have become open due to retirements, which means long hours (on overtime) for the current staffers.

Funny how none of the pork barrels made it into the sequester.

TiredOfTax, do you ever get tired of misinterpreting actual fact?

Yesterday, the S&P hit a high not seen since 2007, well before the housing market crash,m as a sign that the country is well on the path to recovery. This is in addition to the other the other recent records also seen across various exchange platforms.

Of course you'll just reply with a 'oh, that won't last', or 'oh, that's just temporary', or 'oh, that's just a fluke', or 'oh, that's because obama manipulated the numbers.'

bla, bla, bla, bla.

DaveGibson, thanks. I see the same evidence that shows a decreased demand, while all studies and data emphasize the number of hours and stress as limiting factors. I know the FAA has made some strides toward modernizing the system (which I read has been the same since the 70's or 80's) to a more robust one able to accommodate the massive increase in flights, which of course has been cited as the main reason for the stark increase in near-collisions over the recent years.

NY Senator Chuck Schumer is the head of the Senate Transportation Committee, which is the Senate's oversight of the FAA, who has been a staunch ally in providing the necessary funding for bringing our antiquated system up to date.

ToT, please back up this statement with sources: "It is going to hurt, but it is going to hurt those that are not supporters of his the most!" So are people who use airports, and thus air traffice controllers, not Obama's supporters?

"The action is part of President Barack Obama's campaign to avoid any reductions in federal spending by making the sequester as painful as possible."

Probably the funniest part of this corporate-written 'editorial.'

swizzer, glad to see that you are still wearing those rose colored glasses on the economy. You should also be wearing a helmet and face guard for when you face plant.

drugsrus, 'rose colored glasses' are wholly unnecessary when viewing hard facts, like the numbers posted by the professionals.

Whether or not you choose to ignore those is another story.

I'll take a parcel. It's got to be cheaper then New York. It really doesn't matter if it has an ocean view. Not to fussy about that.

There are no concrete reasons for the stock market to be riding this high. All the indicators point to a much lower growth. There will be a correction and it will be ugly. When that happens I want you to continue to credit the Obama administration for their work as it is ALL on him now!

ToT, swizzer won't belisve any of that until the "correction" happens. -- buy gold or silver
