Both the Gloversville Business Improvement District and the Johnstown Business and Professional Association are using similar strategies to encourage shoppers to shop at downtown businesses.
Aimee Ricciardi, president of the Johnstown BPA, said the focus for 2008 is on participating in the 250th anniversary of Johnstown celebration.
While a separate committee is handling the anniversary celebration, the BPA still will be a part of the monthly events that are being planned, she said.
“[BPA] businesses will stay open past their normal hours to participate in an event and bring in customers,” she said.
Of course, the anniversary events will be in addition to the normal events the BPA hosts, Fall Fest and the Colonial Stroll.
Both events function as a lure to attract people downtown, Ricciardi said.
