Guest reader Jo-Ann Clear reads a book to the children during story time at the Gloversville Public Library Jan. 3. The preschool story time program is one of the most successful programs sponsored by the Friends of the Gloversville Public Library.
They don’t work at the library, but their presence is felt throughout.
They can’t be found at the reference desk and they’re not able to help a patron check out a book, but throughout Fulton and Montgomery counties, Friends of the Library groups are working with their local libraries serving as supporters and advocates.
There are groups in Gloversville, Johnstown, Amsterdam, Canajoharie and Northville.
Most Friends of the Library groups work under a very simple mission: to raise funds and use them in any way possible to improve the collection and services of the library.
