Williams releases new Arcadia book about Adirondack hotels
“Adirondack Hotels and Inns,” published by Arcadia, is the latest book from local historian and columnist Donald R. Williams.
GLOVERSVILLE — Local author, educator, columnist and lecturer Don Williams has published a ninth book on Adirondack history.
“Adirondack Hotels and Inns” in Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series contains numerous period pictures of the “hotel era” in the Adirondacks. Hundreds of hotels, inns, cottages, cabins, boarding houses and hostelries are pictured, many of which have since been destroyed.
Williams said he hoped the book would “get the stories and photographs in print while the information is still available and ensure that it will be there for future historians, authors, school children and the general public.”
Local readers may have special interest in the majestic edifices from the Auskerada Hotel on Canada Lake built in 1887 and no longer in existence to Nick Stoner Inn at the Caroga Municipal Golf Course built in 1865 and still open as a restaurant.
