Bill Ackerbauer - Features Editor

Bill Ackerbauer

Johnstown native Bill Ackerbauer began his journalism career in 1996 as a reporter with The Leader-Herald. He has been an editor and writer for newspapers in Schenectady, Saratoga Springs and Dover, N.H., and returned to the Leader in 2007.

'Bill's Broadsides' has earned several awards from the New York News Publishers Association and the Associated Press. Most recently, Bill was recognized with an AP award for excellence in arts-and-entertainment writing.

Bill teaches English as an adjunct instructor at Fulton-Montgomery Community College, and he is a former journalism instructor at the University at Albany. Last summer, he was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship for research on literary history and social reform in Concord, Mass.

In his spare time, Bill plays folk music on guitar, banjo,and fiddle (not all at once) with The Bentwood Rockers.

He lives in Johnstown with his wife and their two sons.
