Tombstone coming to Gloversville

May 24, 2012 - Bill Ackerbauer

Here's a little item from today's arts-and-entertainment page about an upcoming performance in Gloversville. I hadn't heard of this cat before, but he seems like an interesting character, sort of a cross between Woody Guthrie and Sid Vicious. We still haven't figured out how to put streaming video into the ink-and-paper edition of the newspaper, but you high-tech whiz-kids reading this on the Web can check out one of his music videos below.

Limbo Bar & Grill to host Stevie Tombstone

GLOVERSVILLE — Americana singer-songwriter Stevie Tombstone will make his first Fulton County appearance June 2 at Limbo Bar & Grill, 46 Forest St. Tombstone is touring in advance of his upcoming CD, “Greenwood,” scheduled for late-August release by Los Angeles-based indie label Cloverdale Music. The disc is a follow-up to his last EP, “Slow Drunken Waltz ,” which was released last October by Farmageddon Records. He earned his stage name as head of the Tombstones, a 1980s-era “swampbilly” band, and began his solo career opening for Jason & The Scorchers on tour in Europe in the late 1990s. His bandmates over the years have included members of Wilco and the Georgia Satellites. “Born in rural Georgia, Stevie learned the ropes playing country, gospel and blues,” according to the musician’s biography on his website. “Rebelling against his roots, he immersed himself in the world of rock and the underground music scene of the ‘80s in Atlanta but never lost the twang of his childhood.” Tombstone later lived in Austin, Texas, and in the Ozarks before moving to Western New York. His tour this summer will include performances down the East Coast, from Vermont to his native Georgia. The June 2 show at Limbo will take place from 8 to 10 p.m. There will be a $4 cover charge.
