Freedom to speak ones mind is a constitutional right. Mayor king should accept that anyone has the right to disagree with him. Trying to Manipulate or influence the press/thus the people,in a monitary way, shows how little he actualy respects the people at who's pleasure he serves.

There is a big difference in informing readers and giving them your biased opinion....like the mayor states...it is very easy to give your opinion after the fact. Offer ideas, not monday morning quarterbacking. I'm impressed that today's editorial includes Johnstown as well, but again...a very poorly thought out editorial. Just because you run a newspaper does not make you an expert on every facit of life!

Get your priorities straight, people. The mayor is abusing his power by trying (and hopefully failing) to control the local press. WAKE UP, GLOVERSVILLE!!!

I must agree with most of the posts here. You are very negative toward the city of Gville and it is not helping. How are you going to draw business' to this area with all of the negativity that is published. Are some of these comments correct that not all information about crime in this area is being reported? If so, that is not fair to your readers who pay you to receive the most current and up-todate news. The Mayor and any councilperson who votes against having this newspaper designated as the legal newspaper is NOT punishing the people of the city because they do have another paper they can purchase which does a much better job of reporting. Please use all of these comments as constructive criticsm and try and turn this newspaper back to what it used to be. And please give this mayor a chance......like our President, he inherited a big mess and it will not be fixed overnight. "legal notices" have to appear in a paper that is printed, published or principally circulated in the municipality. Nothing else matters. The rest of this matter is BS further degrading "your city".

I live, own my home, volunteer and work all in Gloversville. I am a cheerleader for my city. I don’t know if I would call the Mayor my confidant but I am one of Mayor King’s 2076 Facebook friends.

In the 70's they printed real world & local news. Something of substance, something worth reading. The Vietnam War and how people (young people were changing the world. Today we have two war fronts, how is that affecting us locally & world wide. Those are the things I want to read about. Oh! I forgot, I have a computer now, save trees! Go keyboard!

Everything we hear from our city government comes after something has already been done. Hindsight? Yes, it is what it has to be. Maybe if our local publisher was informed of somethings prior to them happening there wouldn't be as many hindsight comments.

As for being accessible to the Leader as long as they do something for him, that alone is illegal. As if he were saying "scratch my back, I'll scratch yours". This is a public official telling the newspaper to stop publishing opinions or he won't talk. My kids play this game with me all the time. Should the Mayor of Gloversville really be doing that to his citizens? For every opinion there is some truth, for every politician there is selfishness. The Mayor accepted the job, being criticized is part of the job.

"Positive perception leads to productive attitudes." I like this comment. This is what Gloversville needs. This is what I voted for. I am still hoping that our leaders will lead with positive additudes. We need to stop the bickering and start working together to build a new Gloversville. If anyone in our leadership can't put aside they personal agendas, then they should resign.

A multitude of anonymous posters support this mayor every day in this paper and on other internet sites. I do not see a lot of citizens and taxpayers echoing the opinions contained in the anonymous comments. As for my "shake down" comment, here is what I read from the blog: In an email, the mayor had this to say. “Get rid of the blogs, apologize for that terrible editorial and I’ll continue being much more available than the previous Mayors this City has seen.” He than went on to say “You may print this above every Gloversville story “the Mayor won’t comment until we get rid of our blogs, He prefers constructive criticism and educated ides vs. options from people who hindsight vision is 20/20. The Mayor will be meeting with the editorial board in early January For the record. ”

It appears to me that the two are related. That would make it a legal issue IMHO.

No, it's not an editorial. Let's remember what we are reading. We are reading a blog which is a log on the web, not a publisher's editorial. The format is intended to be a log or a diary of happening(s)and an outlet for the writer to express his/her view(s). A blog is not intended to be an editorial. You folks who are commenting on form apparently are no web savvy. If you read other blogs you will probably have similar comments regarding the writers of those blogs.

Negative and derogatory ? You bet. That's what this mayor instills in me. I don't like him, I think he makes for a poor leader. I am not going to praise him. don't like ? don't read. You are obviously one of his cheerleaders, friend or family member. You may not even live in my city.

Let's move on and report hometown news that matters. I'd rather read about the average American "kid" from Fulton County that made a difference in someone's life. 75% of news reported today has no real relevance to my life of yours. Tell me more about the wars and how our troops are doing overseas...that MATTERS!

This paper....I'm sorry to say, has become the recording entity of Press Releases...EDC,CIC,BOS. We can get those on-line. Mayor King was a kid elected to do an adults job. It looked cool to vote for the "Fresh" blood. The editorial board of the LH fell for it. The kid took Tim Hugh's campaign $$'s. Did you need more info than that??

5yrs out..he may have been a great Mayor...but not when adults were needed to fix the radical downfall of Gloversville.

And based upon the comments coming fast and furious with the same basic commentary, the term "political conspiracy" among the anonymous "supporters" of Kingster the Gangster might be interesting to review as well.

The council needs to sit as an investigative body and remove this mayor. He has done nothing for the citizens but spend our money and upset us. This blazen attempt at a shaken down is also illegal. Perhaps a grand jury as well?

How is the Mayor taking away our first amendment??? Because he thinks the LH should get rid of the negative blogs? Use a really name and write a letter to the editor or go to a council meeting!
