| | Website ImprovementsOctober 7, 2010 - Pat BeckOur website will change very soon, and that is a good thing. It’s been close to three years since we “tweaked” our popular website. What do I like about the new changes? I like that when you read a news story, you will be able to go to the top right of it and see the headline of the next story and just click on it. Or click back to a prior one. No more going back to the main page. I like that you don’t have to see the comments at the end of a story if you don't want to see them. You can still view them, but the choice is yours. I think the new site is easier to navigate. It does load faster. We will have the opportunity to present videos. I like the fact that our website averages over 7,500 absolute unique visitors a day. It is easy to submit news stories and press releases for publication. The new site adds the ability for readers to “agree” or “disagree” with the comments left by others on a story. We also will add reader forums that will give readers a place to talk about topics that may not relate to a current news story. In simple terms, readers start a topic and then other readers chime in with their opinions. A reminder — registration is free and is required to leave comments. New features for registered members will include the ability to keep track of what categories they have left comments in as well as sign up for free e-mail alerts. You can read the news when and where you want: The site now will have an improved mobile edition that features more stories that you can access via your cell phone, making it easier for you to read and share stories anywhere. I will be getting used to the site right along with you! Article Comments(19)teebzzOct-28-10 2:33 PM yes, it looks like there's a comment and then its "signed" underneath. GeminiOct-27-10 5:05 PM Mrs. Beck, If you notice, some people think the writer's name is at the end of the message instead of at the top. It looks that way to me also. That should be changed to stop the confusion. I would like to reiterate my opinion of the new format--hate it! AnarchyUtopiaOct-22-10 7:36 PM Love the new site!! It's clean, easy to navigate and I just love it!! LoriBDavisOct-13-10 12:33 PM Good afternoon, Pat! I'm a fan of the new look of LeaderHerald****! This new version is much more visually appealing, and it's wonderful to see a "Web 2.0" interface. I'm a small business owner in Gloversville and as you're aware business comes down to one thing: Marketing. One recommendation I have for the website team is to expand The Leader-Herald logo from how it currently appears. I understand the need and desire for PPC ads; however, the logo, as it appears now, seems to be almost an afterthought. First-time visitors to the website don't know the reach of the Leader-Herald and the communities and counties which it serves. By making the logo MUCH larger, and by adding information about the reach of the newspaper in place of the Google and other PPC ads, you'll be taking an all-important step to continue to Market the beauty and the value of upstate New York. Excellent work, and congratulations to you, your web developers, and the entire Leader-Herald staff! OneSmartFellowOct-13-10 12:31 PM I really like the new format. Everything is very well organized. teebzzOct-10-10 9:19 PM is it only me that the line between the post and the poster's name makes it look like they dont belong together. like the boxed in name and post look like 1 item. for example teebzz looks like hes saying "nice upgrade..." JiminmbOct-09-10 2:03 AM Its very likeable on the PC but it doesn't load properly on my Blackberry which is how I access the LH the most. Please don't suggest that I click the mobile site at the top of the page because it is not only too generic but seems limited in what it has to offer. teebzzOct-08-10 4:39 PM yeah, with a little getting used to, i think its great.. the other layout was getting a little old. DiscobulousOct-08-10 11:22 AM Should add some entertainment value for us old folks shut in the home. Post a Comment | in: News, Blogs & Events Web |
