Website Improvements

October 7, 2010 - Pat Beck
Our website will change very soon, and that is a good thing. It’s been close to three years since we “tweaked” our popular website. What do I like about the new changes? I like that when you read a news story, you will be able to go to the top right of it and see the headline of the next story and just click on it. Or click back to a prior one. No more going back to the main page.

I like that you don’t have to see the comments at the end of a story if you don't want to see them. You can still view them, but the choice is yours.

I think the new site is easier to navigate. It does load faster. We will have the opportunity to present videos.

I like the fact that our website averages over 7,500 absolute unique visitors a day. It is easy to submit news stories and press releases for publication. The new site adds the ability for readers to “agree” or “disagree” with the comments left by others on a story. We also will add reader forums that will give readers a place to talk about topics that may not relate to a current news story. In simple terms, readers start a topic and then other readers chime in with their opinions.

A reminder — registration is free and is required to leave comments. New features for registered members will include the ability to keep track of what categories they have left comments in as well as sign up for free e-mail alerts.

You can read the news when and where you want: The site now will have an improved mobile edition that features more stories that you can access via your cell phone, making it easier for you to read and share stories anywhere. I will be getting used to the site right along with you!
