Fulton County native Rachel Van Slyke, a touring singer-songwriter, is scheduled to perform this Saturday and Sunday as part of the Final Stretch Festival in Saratoga Springs. I hope Saratoga has some good weather this weekend (not just for Rachel's sake, but because my duo will be gigging in the vicinity on Saturday and Sunday as well).
It recently came to my attention that Rachel is seeking donations to support the production of a new album, so I thought I’d give that effort a plug here on the blog. As the 21st century rolls on, I think the music business is going to look more and more like this — with more independent artists supported by social-media-connected networks of fans and friends and fewer platinum-selling, stadium-filling mega bands. And I'm sure that's not a bad thing.
