| | No Child Left Behind?April 14, 2010 - Pat BeckFor those that wonder around our website you may have already read my opinion on a recent public meeting concerning this subject. You can read the story that was published on Tuesday April 13 reporting the explanation given by federal officials at an open meeting. After reviewing several comments from readers - I did what I try not to do - I reacted. It is so discouraging to see, time and again, that an issue as important as the "topic" of this public meeting turns to nothing more than bashing individuals. Does anyone have an opinion on the No Child Left Behind? Are there no educators or administrators or parents that would be so worldly as to stick to the subject and give some well intended thoughts? Very frustrating, not only on this story but on the majority of them. The No Child Left Behind Act requires schools to bring all students to a proficient level in reading, math and science by 2014. School districts and states must provide detailed report cards to the public about their progress toward this goal. What do our area report cards say on if we are reaching this? That is what I would encourage people to look at and comment. Article Comments(13)BalloonExtravaganzasSep-30-10 9:46 AM The No Child Left Behind is just another name change for the failed Outcome Based Education. The dumbing down of America. All children will be expected to attain a lower level of excellence rather than letting some excel beyond others. The high achievers will be waiting for the low achievers to catch up. The SAT test was re-normed downward 50 points. Letter grades are being eliminated across the country for bogus self-esteem worries. Schools have become a 200 year failed experiment. Teachers have no power to take back their classrooms due to Government intervention. Indoctrination is the main purpose of Government schools since the 60's. The Constitution forbids the Federal Gov't from involvement in Education yet it controls all the standards. States need to take back the control and refuse the funds that hold back real higher learning. cruellaJul-27-10 11:08 AM I can`t believe that the LH didn`t even bother to put a small write-up in the paper about The passing of the retired Firecheif!!!!!Ken Green.I don`t care how long he was retired, He served our city for 35 years or more. Cheif for 15 years! What is with you peolpe down there anyway???? I think you owe him and his family that much. I think you folks should get with the program! TiredOfTaxJul-24-10 11:13 AM It appears that there are no issues important enough for Pat to voice an opinion on. Nothing at all matters enough to type a post? Hmmm it has to be writers block. TiredOfTaxJun-05-10 3:34 PM tick tock tick tock tick tock the time continues... yet this blog is bogged down! Fabio44May-12-10 2:57 PM How often does this person update this blog? Every other month? DiscobulousApr-14-10 11:19 AM The whole purpose of this political answer to an intellectual question is, can the schools motivate laggards to increase their learning capacities. If so, how? It all comes down to superior teaching, not feel-good politics. Post a Comment | in: News, Blogs & Events Web |
