Gloversville's new arts venue

If you read the print edition of the Sunday Leader, you probably noticed the story we ran a few weeks ago about SkyHeart Studio, a new multi-use arts space in downtown Gloversville.
What's a 'multi-use arts space,' you ask?
Hannah Hanlon and Michael McAllister took over one of the loft-style apartments recently rennovated by Sue Casey in the building next to the old Baptist Church on South Main Street, and they've turned it into a perfomance venue, art gallery, spa and bakery. The grand opening event at SkyHeart was a performance of the Intermountain Trio, which is the current incarnation of a band that includes Tim Keegan and Don Golden, formerly of the Foothills Trio, along with Mike McAllister and John Birchler.

I haven't been to the studio yet, but I'm looking forward to checking it out this weekend. Tom Wadsworth, a musician from Cobleskill whose paths have crossed mine many times, will be performing in concert there at 7 p.m. Saturday. I'm excited about this performance space because it offers something that Gloversville hasn't had consistently — a place where solo musicians and small ensembles can play and people can listen to them without the distractions associated with the bar/nightclub scene.

If this sort of thing floats your boat, contact the folks at SkyHeart to reserve a ticket for Saturday's show. The cost is $15, which includes drinks and desserts (did I mention there's a boutique bakery on the premises?) The space is small — it's more of a coffeehouse than a Carnegie Hall — so seating is limited, and they don't take walk-ins. For those who can't make it but are interested, I'll share some photos and impressions of the venue and the performance here on the blog next week (stay tuned).
