We need an amphibian divorce!

July 13, 2009 - Bill Ackerbauer
All the wet weather we've been having precipitated the idea for this blog post ... Almost all the photographs you see published in the newspaper have human beings as their subject matter, but thanks to the AP, we have access to lots of great photography with other subjects — landscapes, scenes and wildlife — stuff that doesn't usually get published because its newsworthiness is not on par with its excellent artistic and compositional qualities.
I realize this is The Leader-Herald, not National Geographic, but indulge me a bit. (See photos at right; click on each image to enlarge it. I've included the photographers' original captions, with my commentary in brackets.)

Flashes of lighting illuminate the sky over Pula, Croatia, on Friday. (AP Photo/Darko Bandic) [If I were able to shoot photos like this, I'd want lightning storms to happen more often. Just not when I'm golfing.]
