So Long, Jansen Avenue

June 27, 2009 - Bill Ackerbauer
We had a blast today at the Jansen Avenue Elementary School funeral — er, carnival. The rain put a damper on things, at least for the adults, who were all a little melancholy already because we knew that was our neighborhood school's last gasp. The kids don't seem to mind being split up among three other schools, and they didn't mind jumping in the bouncey house in a torrential downpour, either.

A group of kids from my son's class drew my portrait in sidewalk chalk and then proceeded to stomp on me in effigy:

Here's my son in the center of the mob, when the whole school posed for a group photo by Bill Trojan:

I remember going to Jansen for about 3 year when the district was recutting the lines where certain kids should go depending where they live. Then they changed it back. Seems they were just as confused years ago as they are now lol. Anyways it is a somber day to see it close.
