| | A special dayMarch 30, 2009 - Pat BeckToday is a special day, a very special day. 41 years ago Patricia Lasher married Charles Beck at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Gloversville. My mother made my white velvet wedding dress, with an attached train lined in satin, with material costing $44. The labor of love was priceless. She also made all of the bridesmaid’s dresses – less than $30 each. The reception was held at the Circle Inn (now the location of Cranberry Cove Marina), no open bar, no live band just good food, family and friends. We have been through richer and poorer – at least a dozen times over! Let’s see when people ask the “secret”. I will give you a clue. My husband, Skip, tells everyone that he would be a free man today, if he had murdered me that first year. Or when asked how long he has been married, I can go to the bank on his reply “ I have been happily married for 28 year.” I can figure out some of those years of trails and tribulations that all good marriages go through – and most of them of course were his fault. I have so far kept the fact from him the modern gift for the 41st wedding anniversary is land. I am not quite ready for the “Plot” to thicken on our success. To have a wonderful marriage, bring up two children and be a publisher of a newspaper, a sense of humor is mandatory,
