What's in a song?

March 24, 2009 - Pat Beck
I am a Good Morning America fan. It is not that I trust them more over another network for news any more than I do John Stewart, who I also am a big fan of, I just like the Diane, Robin and Chris and the areas that they cover. An interesting one today was over song lyrics. Seems Brittany Spears may have a hidden message. In her single “If You Seek Amy” some are saying if said quickly how much it sounds like a certain four-letter expletive. I have to admit it took me a great number of times saying it before I figured it out. Anyway, it brought out this whole story and conversations concerning “hidden suggestions” in songs. And of course, it was said that parents should be concerned. And of course, they should but the list of concerns is gigantic! My thoughts went to why waste time trying to figure out or look for these lewd messages? If you want to be concerned just listen to some rap songs that hides absolutely nothing from four letter words, to having sex to beating the crap out of someone. I love all kinds of music but I hate rap. Didn’t really see why this was a chosen story, but I quickly remembered that many feel the same way about what we print. Anyway, just my thoughts for today.
