Fulton County's new Web site

December 15, 2008 - Bill Ackerbauer

I see Fulton County's official government Web site is now up and running at www.fultoncountyny.gov. I think this address makes more sense than the previous one, and I hope it makes the site easier for people to find using Google and other search engines.

As of today, a Google search for "Fulton County, NY" did not return the new county government site. The top result was the Fulton County Regional Chamber of Commerce & Industry's site, and the runners-up included www.fultoncountyny.com, a commercial site maintained by a local Web site designer; and a Wikipedia entry on the county.

As far as the content of the official Fulton County site, I'm glad to see it appears to be mostly up-to-date and accurate. It's a little distressing to see the section titled Employment contains no information (it's supposed to list dates of Civil Service exams, etc.) and has been "under construction" since February. I guess that's to be expected; employment isn't the only sector of our economy that's "under construction." And "under construction" has a more pleasant ring than "circling the drain" or "floundering" or "devoid of hope."

(I'm in Scrooge mode today, but I promise to chime in with a more positive post before Christmas ...)
