Sawyer Fredericks releases debut CD
June 13, 2013 - Bill Ackerbauer
One of Montgomery County’s most prolific songwriters has released a new CD, though he’s not yet old enough to drive a car or vote. Sawyer Fredericks, a 14-year-old boy who lives on his family’s farm south of Fultonville, has been playing guitar and writing songs since he was 11, and the new disc — his debut studio-recorded CD — is a document of his progress as a budding songwriter.
“Out My Window” is the title of the disc and one of the 15 original songs on it. All the music and lyrics are original compositions. Fredericks recorded the music at Jeffrey Britton’s studio in Glens Falls.
Sawyer’s has become a familiar face at farmers markets around the area; last weekend, he performed at the Gloversville market with accompaniment from his cousin Art Fredericks on electric guitar.
Sawyer will have a CD release party for “Out My Window” from 6 to 8 p.m. June 29 at Happy Jack’s Cafe at the Mohawk Harvest Cooperative Market, 30 N. Main St., Gloversville.
He is scheduled to take his act on the road later this summer, with two gigs July 3 and 4 at Goorin Bros. — the hat shop where he got his signature black bowler hat — on Bleecker Street in the West Village of New York City.
On July 6, he will perform during the Middleburgh Pride Day festivities in Schoharie County, and he will perform in Seymour, Conn., on July 13.
Copies of “Out My Window” will soon be available online via CDbaby.com and iTunes, and they can be ordered directly from his family by sending $20 plus $3 for shipping to: Sawyer Fredericks, PO Box 98, Fultonville, NY 12072. Autographed copies also can be purchased at his live performances.
