Publisher's Point

The very first question that I personally needed answered when the decision was reached to have blogs on our website was, what is a blog?

I discovered there are a number of definitions to a frequently updated online journal that can be about and be used for anything at all. That a blog is information that is instantly published to a Web site and is short for “Web log,” a site that allows an individual or group of individuals to share personal or professional insights.

My definition is that this is another way to stay connected to our readers, and that’s important.

That all being said, I needed to come up with a name. First, I thought of “At your Beck and Call” but decided since I am publisher and the person at the newspaper who is supposed to have all the answers, I would appropriately name it the Publisher’s Point. The main purpose will be to share information surrounding the publication of The Leader-Herald newspaper.

From time to time, I will use this means of communication to address the policies of the newspaper and even more fun industry topics in general.

A little personal information – the late (great) Katharine Graham is just one of my heroes, and one of her quotes pretty much sums up my feeling on being a newspaper publisher “ to love what you do and feel that it matters – how could anything be more fun?”
