Everett James Simek

Mr. Everett James Simek, 79, of Johnstown, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 20, 2018.

He was born June 7, 1939, in Gloversville, NY, the son of the late James and Emma Simmons Simek.

Everett was a graduate of Johnstown High School class of 1957 and entered the U.S. Army and served from 1961 to 1964. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper.

After leaving the service, he worked for the Johnstown Police Department for nine years. He then started his own construction contracting business in the early sixties. He loved to build houses and work with his heavy equipment.

Everett was very active in the Boy Scouts where he was a Scout leader. He was also active in the Lions Club for many years.

He is survived by Joyce (Kubran) Simek.

Survivors also include his son, James R. Simek and his wife Sue of Johnstown; two daughters, Betsy (Brian) Simek-Smith of Ft. Johnson, NY and Christine (Derek) Simek of Los Angeles, California; grandchildren, Samantha (Andrew) Nock, Taylor (Jeremy) Simek, Joshua Hohler and Jessica (Michael) O’Boyle; one great-grandson, Liam. He also leaves behind his beloved cats.

Family and friends are invited to the funeral service on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the Reformed Church of Johnstown, 351 North Perry St., officiated by Dr. Bill Faulkner. Funeral services will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment of cremated remains will follow with military honors at the Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078.
