Stella Swarczewski, 84, of Broadalbin, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Waterbury, CT on July 20, 1933, a daughter of Stanislaus and Mary Smolinski Grzyboski and was a 1951 graduate of Wilby High School. Stella lived in Schenectady before moving to Broadalbin in 1978.
Mrs. Swarczewski was employed as a medical secretary for her brother-in-law, the late Dr. Stephen Grey, for twenty eight years. She later worked as a medical coder at Nathan Littauer Hospital, retiring in 1988.
Stella was a devoted communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Broadalbin.
Stella was a member of the National Registry of Medical Secretaries, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, and the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary, both of Broadalbin.
She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and birdwatching. Stella was an avid NY Yankees fan. She treasured her family and her Polish heritage.
She was married to Walter A. Swarczewski on February 19, 1977. He died December 26, 2008.
Survivors include her beloved son, David (Deborah) Walendziak of Broadalbin; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Swarczewski of Tribes Hill; two granddaughters, Amy and Lisa Walendziak; a sister-in-law, Clara Walendziak of Schenectady; three grand-dogs, Cocoa, Maggie, and Bentley; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 7 North St. Broadalbin with Rev. Jun Segura officiating. Burial will follow in St. Adalbert’s Cemetery, Schenectady.
