Francis ‘Sonny’ T. Dwyer Jr., 78, a lifelong Fulton County resident, passed away peacefully, with his devoted family by his side on Wednesday, April, 4, 2018, at Albany Medical Center following a long illness. He will be greatly missed by not only his family and friends but also the community he loved so much.

He was born in Gloversville, NY to the late Francis T. Dwyer Sr. and the late Phyllis Moyer and he attended Gloversville High School. On April 25, 1959, he married his love, Carol Luck. In January of 1969 they went on to start the family business, Dunham’s Springs Shop Inc., and raised a loving family. Sonny, as he was known by his friends, was a community man first but he especially had a special place in his heart for the youth. He donated countless hours and resources to Johnstown Little League Football as well as various community events and causes. He was awarded a ‘Lifetime PTA’ award for his various accomplishments and contributions to the community. Sonny was a 30 plus Kiwanis Club member, a member of the Moose and also the Johnstown Eagles.

Sonny loved football and was an avid fan of the Glove City Colonials. He played for the team until the age of 52 and at the time Sonny was the oldest active player in the nation. He loved his Dallas Cowboys, NASCAR, and doing puzzles of all kinds. He was a man who sought adventure and a good time had by all. Sonny drove a drag racing car in his younger years, running in the C.C. Class and coming .10th of a second from holding a national record. Sonny was a special man with many talents. No one worked harder for his family and community.

He leaves behind not only his loving wife, Carol Luck Dwyer, but also his children, Francis “Tom” Dwyer III (Linda), Alan R. Dwyer (Tami) and Keith Dwyer; as well as 10 grandchildren; five great-grandkids.

Sonny was predeceased by not only his parents but also his two daughters, Carol B. Dwyer in 2006 and Sonya L. Batty in 2007; his brother, John; and sister, Lana.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, April 8, 2018, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Ehle and Barnett Family Funeral Home LLC, 15 N. William St., Johnstown, NY 12095. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of Ehle and Barnett Family Funeral Home LLC. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, NY.
