Margaret L. ‘Peggy’ Stefo

Margaret L. “Peggy” Stefo, age 78, of Sammonsville, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam, with her beloved granddaughter by her side.

She was born on July 4, 1939, in Canajoharie, a daughter of the late Milo and Mildred Giddings Cook.

Margaret attended Canajoharie schools and was a homemaker to her cherished family. In her early years, she worked at the Johnstown Knitting Mill. Mrs. Stefo was of the Baptist faith and member of the First Baptist Church of Johnstown. Margaret enjoyed playing bingo at many area locations and was a winner many times while residing at River Ridge Living Center.

She is survived by her husband, James F. Stefo, whom she married on October 1, 1960; three daughters, Janice Benjamen (Roger) of Fonda, Tonya Tylutki (Rick) of Glen and Tracy Nellis (Richard) of Meco; three siblings, Mabel Failing (Neil) of Fort Plain, Martin Cook of Rochester and Gail Dicks (Nicholas) of Rome; eight grandchildren, Michelle Heroth (Bill), Darcy Dingman (Renee), Lucas Way (Sabina), Destiny Dingman, Erick Tylutki (Kate), Kaila Tylutki (Joe), Taylor Coolidge (Brandon) and Nicholas Nellis; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stefo was predeceased by her daughter, Denise Tomlinson; and three siblings, Marjorie Dawn Ague, Milo Cook Jr. and Malcolm Cook.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, March 9, 2018, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, with Pastor Mark Appell, officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, March 9, prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon) at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda immediately following the funeral service.
