Dr. John G. Zeis
Dr. John G. Zeis, 78, of Wells, passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2018, while doing what he enjoyed most, ice fishing on the Great Sacandaga with his son and granddaughter. Born in Morristown, NJ, the son of the late John A. and Agnes Reufch Zeis.
He graduated from the Morristown Prep School in 1957; he then attended Hamilton College where he played football, hockey and lacrosse. He was very proud of being a member of the 1958 undefeated football team. He then went on to attend Colgate University where he earned a master’s degree. He then got his first teaching job at the Wells Central School. This lead to his path of Administration at Stratford School, then superintendent at Mount Markham School, then Hudson Falls School where he stayed for over 25 years. In his time of administration he went to Vanderbilt University to obtain his PhD. After he retired he continued to fill interim superintendent positions which returned him to Wells, his home which he loved. He was also an adjunct professor for Plattsburgh State University. John was the Administrator of the Glens Falls Foundation for many years and truly enjoyed the job. He was a member of the Wells Fish and Game Club and a member of the Four Rivers Alliance of Hamilton County. John enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, and especially his granddaughter. John loved to spend time at the family camp and farm in Stratford, NY.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Diane Lepska Zeis in January of 2018.
His loving family includes son, John G. Zeis of Wells; granddaughter, Emmalee Zeis and former daughter-in-law, Kristina Zeis; sister, Barbara Flynn of Holderness, NH; nieces, Mary-agnes Jackson of Cumberland, RI, Michael Flynn of Tewuksbury, MA, Ellen Malm of Plymouth, NH, Heather Selvittli of Worcester, MA; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Bavlove of Laguna Hills, CA and Susan Schwartz of Portland, Oregon; a brother-in-law, David Lepska of Westport, Conn.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, March 9, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Service Inc., 401 Bridge Street, Northville NY 12134.
