William Empie, 61, of State Highway 10, Caroga Lake, died at home on Monday, January 8, 2018.
He was born in Cobleskill on September 22, 1956, a son of Robert and Muriel Barnes Empie and resided in Sharon Springs before moving to Caroga Lake as a teenager. Bill was a 1974 graduate of Johnstown High School.
Mr. Empie was employed in the maintenance department at UPS in Gloversville. He also had a passion for music and sound and enjoyed being a soundman for several area events. For more than twenty years, Bill was the soundman for the Adirondack National Car Show held in Lake George.
He enjoyed sports, both as a spectator and a participant and was always happy spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his sons, Justin Empie of Caroga Lake and William Empie (Megan) of Johnstown; his mother, Muriel Smith of Caroga Lake; a brother, Timothy Empie of Caroga Lake; a sister, Cynthia (Robert) Brink of Gloversville; two granddaughters, Anna and Isabella Paige-Empie; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (corner of Route 29 and Black Street), Johnstown, followed by a prayer service at noon conducted by Deacon Larry Groesbeck. Cremation will be performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brennan Memorial Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
