John W. “Jack” Michell
John W. “Jack” Michell, 81, of South Shore Road, Northville died Monday January 8, 2018 at St. Johnsville Rehab. & Nursing Center.
He was born in Ozone Park, NY on March 16, 1936 a son of John and Ina Bovee Michell and moved upstate as a child. Jack attended school in Broadalbin. He resided on South Shore Road and later moved to Arizona. Jack returned to New York in 2006.
In 1966, he co-owned and -operated the former Old Lonesome Lodge in North Broadalbin where he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Nancy. They spent 51 wonderful years together. Later, Mr. Michell was employed as a car salesman for Salisbury Chevrolet in Scotia and later at Mangino GMC & Buick in Ballston Spa. While in Arizona, Jack worked at Bromm’s Chevrolet in Wickenburg.
Mr. Michell was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean War.
Jack enjoyed restoring old cars, snowmobiling and four-wheeling, and spending time with family and friends.
He was married to Nancy Luke Michell on November 12, 1966. She died on March 15, 2017. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Donald, and a sister, Thelma Steele.
Survivors include three sons, Scott (Barbara) Michell of Northville, David Palmer (Kim) of Prescott, AZ, and Gregg Palmer of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter, Susan (Pat) Ford; six grandchildren, Traci Shear-Cooper, Brandon Palmer, Katrina Ives, Michael Ford, Danielle Bartlett, and Sarah Newhart; and a great-granddaughter, Mia.
Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Saturday January 20, 2018 from noon – 2 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Judy Humphrey-Fox, officiating. Final burial will be in the spring at Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Department of Veterans Affairs – General Post Funds #1337, in care of the funeral home.
