Ruth A. Westfall

Ruth A. Westfall, 86, of Ext. North Main Street, Broadalbin, died Sunday afternoon, December 3, 2017 at St. Mary’s Healthcare, Amsterdam with her family at her side.

She was born in Keck Center on February 6, 1931, a daughter of Harry and Ann Keck and was educated in Gloversville. Ruth moved to Broadalbin in 1955.

Mrs. Westfall was employed in the cafeteria at Broadalbin Central School for several years. She also assisted her husband with the operation of H&B Heating Oil, a firm that was established in 1969 and continues to operate today, under the direction of her son, Brian.

Ruth was a member of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church and a member of the Miriam Class.

She was a member of the Kennyetto Fire Company Auxiliary.

She enjoyed ceramics, spending time with family and friends, and caring for her grandchildren. Ruth also took great pride in her home and property, and was always busy around her house.

She was married to Harold A. Westfall on June 28, 1953. He died on November 6, 2007.

Survivors include a son, Brian (Charlene) Westfall; a daughter, Brenda (James) Cornell, both of Broadalbin; four grandchildren, Matthew Cornell, and Kaitlyn, Brianna, and Samantha Westfall; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (corner of Route 29 and Black Street), Johnstown, with the Rev. David Deuel, officiating. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Final burial of remains will be held at the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kennyetto Fire Company, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or to the Broadalbin United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
