Richard S. Allen
Richard S. Allen, age 92, of Johnstown, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017, at his residence.
He was born on July 25, 1925 in Gloversville, a son of the late Martin and Ruth Kingsbury Allen.
Richard attended Gloversville schools and honorably served in the U.S. Army during WW II, where he received 2 Bronze Stars and a Victory Medal. He was employed for over 40 years at the Karg Brothers Tannery in Johnstown. Mr. Allen was a die hard NY Yankees fan, horse racing, pitch, horseshoes, a nice cold Budweiser and rolling his own cigarettes.
Beloved father, survivors include three sons, Stanley (Shari) of Johnstown, Terry of Gloversville and Steve (Kris) of Meco; and one daughter, Debra Gibson (Charles) of Johnstown; grandchildren, Jared, Jody, Kyle, Bobbie Jo, Matt, Katherine, Jay, Kimberly, Chad and Cody; along with 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law.
Mr. Allen was predeceased by his wife, Betty J. Jarabek Allen, whom he married on November 20, 1949, and who passed on June 13, 2008; and one brother, Carl Allen.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, December 29, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Spring interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
