John V. Pianelli
John V. Pianelli passed away December 3, 2017, following a sudden and unexpected stroke. The first-born son of Jim and Eva Pianelli, he was named in honor of his grandfather whom he adored. John grew up on Third Avenue in Gloversville during a time of great promise and opportunity. He was universally well-liked and respected. A gifted athlete John was co-captain of the High School Football team and graduated from Gloversville High School with the Class of 1970. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed snowmobiling, skiing, hiking, boating, Pugs and spending quiet time with his family.
John spent over two decades in the leather industry rising in the ranks to become an executive with the Feuer Leather Group. With the countywide decline of this important sector John transitioned to the construction trades and was chief operating manager of Bill Lake Homes and Construction in Sprakers, New York, where he worked right up to this sudden emergency. John built a special bond with Bill, Willy, Shawn and their families.
Despite opportunities elsewhere, John was a lifelong resident of Fulton County. He believed in the strength and spirit of the locals. There wasn’t a more beautiful place anywhere in the world for him.
John is survived by his loving mother, Eva Pianelli of Mayfield; devoted wife of 36 years, Candace Pianelli; brother, James V. Pianelli (MaryAnn) of Houston, Texas; two sons, Daniel Thum and James Pianelli (Sara); and two granddaughters whom he adored, Lauryn and Karysn Pianelli. He was predeceased by his father, James.
In respect to John’s expressed wishes, no viewing or service is scheduled. John’s family expresses their deep appreciation for the kindness, prayers and good wishes from all who were fortunate to have known him.
