Barbara Eleanor Satterlee
On November 25, 2017, Barbara Eleanor Satterlee, 85, years old, passed away peacefully at Nathan Littauer Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Gloversville, NY, at the “old” Nathan Littauer Hospital, on October 7, 1932, to S. Edward and Eleanor Eaton Brown. Barbara attended school in Gloversville starting at Oakland Avenue School, graduating from Gloversville High School in 1950. After high school, Barbara attended Becker Junior College in Worcester, MA, with a degree in Journalism. She was a stay at home mom, until her youngest daughter started school. She then began working at Burton Insurance Agency for about 20 years.
Barbara married the love of her life, Gene Satterlee, on December 26, 1955, a marriage that would last for close to 62 years that included five children, fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Barbara was the family’s greatest supporter and cheerleader. From Gene’s sports teams that he coached, to the teams he played for, to all of her children’s and grandchildren’s games and activities, no matter when or how far away they were, she was there rooting in her positive and proud motherly and grandmotherly way. Barbara was also a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the Syracuse Orangemen. Her family brought her so much joy. She loved having everyone of them with her on holidays, birthdays, weddings, and Carnival Cruise ships. She was the true ambassador of the statement — Family is Everything!
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Gene, who was the best caretaker ever; her loving children: daughters, Jill (John) Cassaro and Pamela (Sean) Dooling, both of Meco; her sons, Timothy (Sheila) Satterlee of Mahomet, IL, Todd (Paul Groipen) Satterlee of Chestnut Hill, MA and Christopher (Sue) Satterlee of Gloversville. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Brandon Barker, Cassandra (Tony) Agresta, Bradley Satterlee, Brent (Abbey) Barker, Nicholas Cassaro, Tiffany (Chris) Rohmfeld, Rosalynn (Andrew Baker) Satterlee, Tara Satterlee, Zachary Satterlee, John (Alysha Chamberlain) Cassaro Jr., Tristen (Brody Stewart) Satterlee, Bryanna (Jarod) Klaus, Spencer Satterlee and Garrett Dooling; six great-grandchildren, with two more on the way in 2018.
She is also survived by her sister, Beverly Barkevich, and her family; her sister-in-law, Katherine Satterlee and her family.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents and her brothers-in-law, Jack Barkevich and Donald Satterlee.
She will bed early missed by her family, her friends in Gloversville, Florida and the many friends she made along her life’s journey.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors in the Nathan Littauer Hospital ER and ICU for their skill and comfort in Barb’s last hours of life.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville.
