Leon C. House
Leon C. House, age 93, of Meco, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home, Gloversville.
He was born on July 12, 1923, in Gloversville, a son of the late Roy and Louise Ketchum House.
Leon was a class of 1943 graduate of Gloversville High School. Upon his graduation, Mr. House honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. After returning home, Leon worked for several years in the leather industry. He later worked as a carpenter for John Sarris Contracting until his retirement in 1987. After retiring, he worked part time for the town of Johnstown Highway Department. Mr. House was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Gloversville Eagles, Oppenheim-Ephratah Senior Center and also was a handyman instructor at 4-H in Gloversville.
Mr. House is survived by his wife, Gertrude R. (Sweeney) House, whom he married on March 30, 1946; one son, Leonard “Len” House and his wife Nancy of Mayfield; one daughter, Susann Williams and her husband David of Johnstown; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Leon was predeceased by one infant son, Roy James House; and his three siblings.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
Private cremation was at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
