Francine S. Smith
Francine S. Smith, age 91, of Johnstown, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on May 27, 1925, in Gloversville, a daughter of the late Gardner and Ernestine Golly Sammons.
Francine was a graduate of Johnstown High School. She was employed for over 30 years as a teller and receptionist at Fulton County National Bank in Gloversville until her retirement. In her earlier years, she was a member of the U.S.O. and loved to dance. She was an original Sammons from Sammonsville. She also spent winters in Brownsville, Texas, where her family owned citrus orchards. Everyone who knew Francine loved her and she will be deeply missed.
On June 21, 1947, Francine was united in marriage to Charles L. Smith Jr. and he passed away on March 2, 1991.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lynnae Elmendorf and son-in-law Michael of Johnstown and Deborah Gross of Glendale, Arizona; two grandchildren, Brenden Elmendorf and Alicia Elmendorf; and her beloved feline companion, B.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her five siblings, Edwin, Danvers, Helen, Charlotte and Virginia.
Francine donated her body to Albany Medical College through their anatomical gift program.
A memorial service for Mrs. Smith will be conducted at a later date.
