Eleanor Mogensen Adams
Eleanor Mogensen Adams, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam.
Eleanor was born and educated in Johnstown, the daughter of Lena and Harry Mogensen. She graduated from Johnstown High School and the Gloversville Business School.
In 1942 she married the young man from across the street, Calvin “Jack” Adams. The two shared a happy union of 56 years prior to his passing in 1998.
After school, Eleanor worked at the People’s Bank in Johnstown for several years and eventually became the bookkeeper for the family leather business. She also worked at the Fulton Montgomery Community College library in her later years.
Community and church were important aspects of Eleanor’s life. She became a member of the Johnstown Reformed Church in 1934. She served on the board and as President of the Willing Helper’s Home for Women. Eleanor was a volunteer for the Fulton County Red Cross, the Johnstown Hospital, the Girl Scouts of America, and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Port Charlotte, FL. She was also a dedicated bridge player involved with different groups and friends over the years.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Jonathan E. Adams; her daughter, Patricia Cioffi; her grandchildren, Lisa Pratt and Jonathan C. Adams, and by her great granddaughter, Megan Pratt.
A family memorial service will be held later in the spring.
