Shirley Diane Dillenbeck Sammons
Shirley Diane Dillenbeck Sammons passed away peacefully on May 3, 2016, with her family at her side, at the age of 77 years old.
She was born in Amsterdam, NY on August 31, 1938, the daughter of the late Henry B. and Eleanor Dillenbeck.
She was married to Jacob R. Sammons CFE on October 6, 1956, and happily celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Shirley resided in Tribes Hill on the family farm where she was blessed with seven children, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: daughter, Terry (Vernon) Dufel of Tribes Hill, daughter, Tammy (Henry) Knoop of Fort Plain, daughter, Shirley (Rob) Hudyncia of Fort Plain, daughter, Susan (Scott) Kennedy of Fort Plain, and daughter, Sherry Sammons of Tribes Hill. Shirley was predeceased by two sons, Jacob H. and Ernest J. Sammons.
The grandchildren are Justin (Kate) Dufel of Tribes Hill, Henry (Jessica) Knoop of Lakeport, Calif., Kelly (William) Reed of Canajoharie, Jeffery (Kayla) Dufel of Tribes Hill, Julia Hudyncia of Fort Plain, David (Shailene) Knoop of Buffalo, Ryan Hudyncia of Fort Plain, Jamie Sammons of Tribes Hill, and Jacob D. Sammons of Tribes Hill; great-grandchildren are Beckett Knoop of Buffalo, Jared Dufel of Tribes Hill and Josephine Dufel of Tribes Hill; and one sister-in-law, Marlene (John) Sherwood. Shirley is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, provider for the family, hard worker and a great cook. Everyone in the neighborhood was welcome at the table and food would be there. She was assistant treasurer and office manager for Montgomery County Agricultural Society starting in 1974 and then treasurer until she retired in January 2012. She was an active member in 4-H from an early age which she passed on to her next two generations.
Calling hours are Sunday, May 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main St., Johnstown, NY. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 9, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
