Ruth Elizabeth Covington Eldredge

Our mother, Ruth Elizabeth Covington Eldredge, entered into her eternal rest and the loving arms of her Savior, Redeemer and Lord Christ Jesus on May 6, 2016, one day after her 96th birthday, at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam, NY, surrounded by her loving family. She has been reunited with the love of her life, her husband Joe. They were wed on November 15, 1941, sharing almost 55 years of marriage until his passing on August 19, 1996.

Mom was born on May 5, 1920, the only child and the pride and joy of her parents, Benjamin and Lulu Gettel Covington.

Ruth is survived by her two children, Robert Joseph and Elizabeth Ruth (Bette) Mezzano, and their spouses Bonny and Frank; her grandchildren, Debbie and her husband Randy Schultz, Jeff and his wife Cathy, Gregory John, Ruth Elizabeth (Lisa) and her husband Steve Zajaceskowski; her great-grandchildren, Ashley and her husband Aaron Kenyon, Andrew and his fiancee Christa, Matthew, Joseph and his wife Kate Schultz, Joshua and wife Sarah Eldredge, Brian and his wife Kate Eldredge, Beth Ann Zajaceskowski and finace Jared Fagan; her great-great-granddaughter, Adelyn Kenyon.

Our mother graduated from nursing school in 1941. As a registered nurse, she worked many years as an O.R. Nurse at West Jersey Hospital and a nurse for Dr. James J. Riviello in his private practice in Merchantville, New Jersey. While we were growing up, our mother found the time to be a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She was also active in the PTA at Merchantville School, where she served as president.

Our family moved to Lake Pleasant in the summer of 1958. Our mother and father operated a hunting lodge and bed and breakfast known as Timberlake Lodge for many years before starting a family business known as J&R Eldredge Inc., a fuel oil and service business, later adding LP gas. Their son, Bob and his wife Bonny were also part of the business, later joined by their son, Jeff and his wife Cathy, and now their son, Brian.

Our mother was also an accomplished vocalist, having sung light opera in Philadelphia. After moving to Lake Pleasant, she was a soloist for many area weddings and church services. She was also an accomplished pianist and organist, playing for many of our local churches.

Mom enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed cooking and baking for holidays and special occasions, and we always enjoyed the fruits of her labor.

Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Our mother always enjoyed time spent with all of her family. She was a loving and Christian example for each of us.

We will always cherish her memory.

Arrangements for our mother have been entrusted to the Northville Funeral Service Inc.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon on Saturday May 14, 2016, at Fish Mountain Cemetery in Lake Pleasant, NY with Pastor Ken Tabor officiating. A reception and celebration of life gathering for Ruth will immediately follow at the North Country Bible Fellowship on Elm Lake Road in Speculator, NY.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
