Lucia ‘Libby’ D’Arcangelis

Lucia “Libby” D’Arcangelis, 99, of Fort Plain, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Palatine Nursing Home.

Born on October 3, 1916, in St. Johnsville, she was one of 12 children to the late Dominic and Filomena Basolone Capece. A lifelong resident of the area, Libby attended the one-room country schoolhouse on River Road in Minden. She was a member of the former St. James Catholic Church.

On January 30, 1936, Libby married her loving husband, Angelo “Yio” D’Arcangelis; it was a union that lasted 59 years until his passing in 1995. She worked for four years at the Luxuray Knitting Mill in Fort Plain before leaving to raise her three children at home. Libby enjoyed bowling and golfing, but her fondest passions were lovingly caring for and cooking for her children and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her loving family: son, Robert D’Arcangelis (Rosemarie); daughters, Sheila Morrell (Harold) and Desiree Halloran (Gregory); grandchildren, Yio D’Arcangelis, Stephanie D’Arcangelis DeMyer, Martin Morrell (Robyn), Deirdre Bouchard (Michael), Sean Halloran (Kerry) and Siobhan Halloran; great-grandchildren, Chenya D’Arcangelis, Van DeMyer, Kayla Morrell, Samantha Morrell, Pryce Bouchard, Dante Bouchard, Lucia Bouchard and Ivy Halloran. Libby was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Maria Pondozi, Donato, Pasquale, Antonio, Giuseppe, Rosina Palombi, James, Angela Lawrence, Carmeta Walrath, Victor and Albert.

A funeral service for Libby will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at noon at Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie. Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held one hour prior starting at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fort Plain Cemetery.
