John William Poultney
John William Poultney, 64, of Jacksonville, Florida, died peacefully at home after a very courageous fight with cancer, with his loving family by his side on February 7, 2016. He was born in this area on December 17, 1951, and attended Fonda-Fultonville schools.
John is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Della H. Colvin, whom he married on September 20, 1970; and his sons, Shane and Christopher Poultney, both from Jacksonville. John was the son of Pauline (St.Louis) and Herbert Poultney; and brother of Hope Denison, who predeceased him.
John’s most enjoyable moments were spent with his family, but his grandchildren, Aristotle (Ari) Poultney, Jessica (Pookie) Poultney, Briana (Breezie) Poultney, Damien Spannuth, Alexander Poultney and Leilani (Lily) Poultney, all of Jacksonville, are what put the happiness in his heart.
He will be most remembered for his loving, caring, sweet and gentle attitude, awesome sense of humor and positive disposition as well as his never ending ability to see the good in others.
John is survived by his six sisters, Celia Henry (Bill) of Johnstown, Deir-tra Baker (Bob) of Gloversville, Lenora Fiorenza (Tony) of Charleston, Helen Tarvin of Lambo, Arkansas, Vicky Owens (Rance) of Johnstown and Katrina Owens (David) of Fort Plain; and two brothers, Herbert W. Poultney Jr. of Johnstown and Darryl Poultney of Lambo, Arkansas. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on May 21, 2016, for John’s family and close friends.
