Allene Vivian Short Roe
Allene Vivian Short Roe, age 93, of Johnstown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam.
She was born on December 13, 1922, in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Howard Allen and Marjorie Vivian Greene Short.
Mrs. Roe attended Syracuse public schools and graduated from Central City Business Institute in 1942. She worked as a secretary at Selective Service and also worked for Dr. Arthur Howard in Johnstown. Mrs. Roe was an avid bowler and enjoyed golfing in her later years. Allene was a member of the Johnstown Reformed Church and was also a member and officer of the Johnstown Ladies of the Moose.
She is survived by her three daughters, Bonnie Schwartz and her husband Mark, Connie Carter and Valerie Kaufman and her husband Don; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Roe was predeceased by her husband, James G. Roe, whom she married on December 12, 1942, and who passed on October 29, 2005; and one son, Allen Dean Roe.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016, at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown, with the Rev. Brian Dykema officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, May 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
