Mario J. Greco

Mario J. Greco, Sr., 91, of Hillcrest Spring, Rte. 30N, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam with his loving family at his bedside.

Born February 5, 1924 in Amsterdam, N.Y., he was the son of the late Augustino and Catherine Bruzzese Greco. Mario was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and he lived for the past 17 years on Camp Road in Gloversville.

He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII. He was employed as an assistant to the Commissioner of the AFL-CIO Labor Department in Albany for 10 years. After Mario owned and operated the former Mario’s Diner on Main Street, Amsterdam and later owned Mario’s Comedy Inn on Rte. 67 in Amsterdam for 27 years.

Mario was a former member of the St. Angelo Club; former Amsterdam Kiwanis Club and the AMVETS.

He built his own camp in Edinburg, NY in 1954 where he spent his summers with his family and his favorite past time of fishing and cooking. He will sadly be missed.

Mario is survived by his wife the former Eleanor Intonte of 67 years whom he married on May 29, 1949. He is also survived by five sons; Augustine Greco of New Lebanon, Michael Greco (Terry) of Broadalbin, Mario Greco, Jr. (Ann) of Mayfield, Gene Greco (Diane) of Edinburg and Christopher Greco (Patty) of Clifton Park, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 1st, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Lawrence Decker officiating. Private burial will follow at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
