GPD seeks alleged attempted robber

GLOVERSVILLE — City police are looking for a man who allegedly attempted to steal items from a bicyclist on the Rail Trail.

According to a city police news release, at about 4:54 p.m. on Tuesday, members of the department were dispatched to the Rail Trail, in the area of Country Farms, for the report of an attempted robbery.

Upon arrival, members of the patrol division made contact with the victim who provided the following account. He stated that he was bicycling north on the Rail Trail, just south of South Main Street, when a male emerged from the woods, knocked him off his bicycle to the ground, and attempted to steal property from his person.

The suspect was described to police as being a tall, white male with a muscular build and a short haircut. The male was reported to have been wearing gray shorts with a red t-shirt. Ultimately, the male suspect was unable to retrieve any property from the victim.

Since Tuesday, members of the patrol division and detective division have been reviewing both city-owned, and privately-owned, surveillance systems, yet no suspect has been identified.

As a result of several recent incidents on the Rail Trail, the police department has increased patrols of the Rail Trail, as well as parks, and other areas which have significant pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

Gloversville police will continue to utilize bicycle patrol officers to patrol the Rail Trail throughout the day and night.

Anyone with any information this incident is asked to contact the Gloversville Police Department at (518) 773-4506.
