Felony charge for registered sex offender

GLOVERSVILLE –A registered sex offender is facing a felony charge after he had sexual contact with a minor, according to city police.

Robert J. Velett, 44, of 112 Washington St. apartment 1 was charged with a first-degree criminal sexual act on Friday.

Officers said beginning in the month of June of 2017, members of the department’s Detective Division received a complaint regarding a registered level 2 sex offender, Velett.

The report alleged that Velett, while babysitting a juvenile male, had subjected the juvenile male to oral and anal sexual conduct.

At the time of the initial complaint, detectives secured physical evidence. The secured evidence was submitted to the New York State Police Laboratory, and analyzed.

On Tuesday, the state police laboratory provide GPD detectives with the results of the analysis. As a result of this, GPD detectives applied for, and were granted, an arrest warrant for Velett.

On Friday, members of the detective, and patrol division located and arrested Robert J. Velett.

Velett was processed on the outstanding arrest warrant, and held for arraignment in City Court.

Velett is currently a Registered Level 2 Sex Offender based on a 1999 conviction for first-degree sexual abuse. According state Department of Corrections records, Velett served a 1 year and 5 month prison sentence in Arthur Kill Correctional Facility in Staten Island. He was placed on parole on May 13, 2003.

The investigation into Velett is continuing, and anyone with information regarding his contact with juveniles may contact the Detective Division at 518-773-4505.

Woman arrested on a bench warrant

JOHNSTOWN — Angela M. Auspelmyer, 37, of 32 Fifth Ave., was arrested by city police at 11:31 p.m. Oct. 31 on a City Court bench warrant.

She was held for an appearance in that court.

Man charged with disorderly conduct

JOHNSTOWN — Dustin A. Hart, 29, of 20 Yost St., was charged by city police at 2:31 a.m. Oct. 31 with disorderly conduct.

Police said he was charged on East Main Street. Police said he was swearing and yelling at another person, refusing to stop after being ordered to do so by officers.

Hart will appear later in City Court.

Man arrested on a bench warrent

JOHNSTOWN — Dominic M. Eplite, 35, of 204 Burton St., was arrested by city police at 8:21 a.m. Oct. 24 on a City Court bench warrant.

He was held for an appearance in that court.
