Teen accused of hurting one-year-old

GLOVERVILLE — A city teenager is facing charges after city police say she injured a 1-year-old child she was babysitting.

Cassandra R. Pitt, 17, was charged with third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child by city police on Wednesday.

Officers said they were called to Nathan Littauer Hospital for a report of an injured baby.

Police said Pitt was left in care of the infant when the baby sustained extensive injuries to her face and head. An investigation revealed that Pitt intentionally caused the injuries to the child, and had fabricated the story as to how the child received the injuries.

Pitt was arraigned in City Court by Judge Corey Dalmata and was released from Fulton County Jail with a bail of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 insurance bond.
