Victim identified in hit, run

Police have vehicle, driver questioned

GLOVERSVILLE — City police have identified the victim in Saturday’s fatal hit and run accident as 61-year-old city resident Lawrence Douglas Irby Jr.

The accident, in which a vehicle struck a pedestrian, occurred on East Fulton Street between Judson Street and Littauer Place on Saturday around 8:20 p.m.

Responding officers located Irby, commonly known as Doug, suffering from severe injuries as a result of the crash. Irby was transported to Nathan Littauer Hospital where he later died.

Police say the vehicle that struck Irby fled the scene.

As of Sunday, police said the vehicle involved in the accident, a late model SUV, has been located and seized.

In a release today, police said the driver and two occupants of the vehicle at the time of the crash have been located by police, interviewed and released.

Police say criminal charges against any of the parties involved in the crash will be based on the analysis of evidence that has been collected. Police are working closely with the state police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office to process and analyze evidence, including processing of the seized vehicle that remains in police custody.

Members of law enforcement will return to the crash scene today to continue the active investigation and short term street closures in the area are likely.
