JOHNSTOWN — Recently members of the New York State Correctional Officers Police Benevolent Association, Inc., Hale Creek Unit and Great Meadows Unit donated $1,000, to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Association to be used to support the Fulton County Sheriff’s Snowmobile Unit.

The donation is in memory of Henry Ross, III, a 24-year-old Mayfield man tragically killed in a snowmobile accident on the Great Sacandaga Lake on Dec. 23, 2016.

Ross was the nephew of Jay Zarrelli, a correctional officer and member of NYSCOPBA.

Ross’s family sought donations to support the restoration of the sheriff’s snowmobile unit.

They have purchased two snowmobiles and a trailer, as well as used the donations to purchase equipment for the sheriff’s office snowmobile unit and purchase a new snowmobile for the Mayfield Fire Department to replace a 20-year-old snowmobile used for rescue and recovery.
