FONDA –An Amsterdam man will spend at least the next 25 years in state prison following his sentencing today for the murder of his pregnant girlfriend.

Michael Donyell Norwood, 39, was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison by Judge Felix J. Catena in Montgomery County Court this afternoon after he pleaded guilty on Oct. 31 to killing Beth Ann Logan, 30.

Norwood was originally indicted in September on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree rape. If convicted, those charges would have brought a mandatory life sentence.

According to court reports, Logan was attacked by Norwood inside the couple’s Garden Street apartment in Amsterdam at approximately 11:50 p.m. on March 28. Logan died on April 2 at Albany Medical Center from her injuries. Authorities said she was 13 weeks pregnant at the time.

According to court documents, Norwood stomped on Logan’s head and body while wearing work boots.

Norwood did this, the documents say, while Logan’s four children, ages 9, 10, 12 and 13, were present in the apartment. A 5-year old child, who was visiting with the family, was also present at the time of the attack.

The Leader-Herald will have more on this story in Wednesday’s print and online editions.
