Shirley Luck center slate of 2019 events
JOHNSTOWN — The following is for the Shirley J. Luck Senior Center, 109 E. Main St.
The membership for the year is $15 — those who sign up will be entered in a drawing for $50 who sign up before Jan. 31, when the drawing will be held.
Be sure to get the Eavesdropper every month to stay informed on all that is happening. The Eavesdropper can be e-mailed for free or the center will mail it for $5, or stop in and pick it up and maybe spend some time with friends over a cup of coffee. Anyone who is not a member of the senior center is welcome to join in any of their classes or trips for a higher cost. Call (518) 762-4643 and speak to a member of the staff for more information.
Upcoming events include:
Wednesday: The lunch crew will meet at noon at Sam’s Steakhouse; call the center to make a reservation. Everyone is welcome to a meal and maybe win the raffle while catching up with friends.
∫ From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the free blood pressure clinic.
∫ At 1 p.m. is bingo with prizes and refreshments.
Jan. 16: From 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Ed Hornidge will be the instructor for the bridge class for beginners or those needing a refresher on the game.
Jan. 23: At 11 a.m. join attendees for the first spring bazaar planning meeting at followed by lunch.
Jan. 29: From 10 a.m. to noon a representative from Mohawk Valley Physicians will be at the center.
Starting Feb. 6: American Association of Retired Persons tax preparers will be at the senior center on Wednesdays so call to make an appointment and get income taxes done at no cost.
The following is a list of upcoming trips. No need to be a member to go on any of the trips; just call or stop by to sign up or to get more information.
March 5: Turning Stone Casino.
March 22: Garden and flower show at Hudson Valley Community College.
May 5: Phantom of the Opera at Proctors.
June 9 to 13: Wildwood, N.J.
Sept. 4 to 10: Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.
