Local authors to read from anthology
NORTHVILLE — The Northville Library will have local authors at 7 p.m. Tuesday when the community will have the opportunity to hear the authors read their chapters from the anthology Before They Were our Mothers: Voices of Women Born Before Rosie Started Riveting. The theme for the evening is At My Mother’s Knee, the authors will share stories passed down through their foremothers, according to a news release.
Constance A. Dodge will share the family memoir about horse-stealing ancestors in central New York. Barbara J. Spaeth will read her mother’s Me-Too story about being sexually harassed as a young woman working in Gloversville. In addition, local author and editor of the anthology, Patricia A. Nugent, will introduce the anthology, discuss the inspiration behind the collection, and offer suggestions to help others create their own family memoirs, the news release stated.
The anthology includes 15 factually-based stories written in the voice of the authors’ foremothers. The time period covers 1889 through 1948 and takes readers to nine different countries, plus four U.S. states. All are written by women living in New York state, the news release stated.
