Girl Scout building a pantry garden

GLOVERSVILLE — To earn her Silver Award, Bridget Will, a Girl Scout cadette from Troop 2316 in Amsterdam, is building a pantry garden to benefit the Salvation Army of Gloversville.

The Silver Award is the highest award that can be earned by a middle school-aged Girl Scout. Will is working with Capt. Wendy Senior of the Salvation Army of Gloversville.

The pantry garden will be used to grow a variety of vegetables that will supplement the Salvation Army’s effort to provide free meals to community members in need.

Building materials for the pantry garden have been donated by Builder’s First Source, Kingsboro Lumber, Noble Ace Hardware, Runnings and Home Depot. However, some materials are still needed, namely, lumber and wire mesh. The Salvation Army and Will would appreciate monetary donations. Monetary donations in the form of checks may be made out to the Salvation Army of Gloversville and mailed to 10 Spring St., Gloversville NY, 12078. Write “Pantry Garden” on the memo line.

The construction of the pantry garden will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army building.

Volunteers are welcomed and needed. Anyone who would like to participate in building the pantry garden, contact the Salvation Army at (518) 725-4119 for more details. Refreshments will be provided.
