Named officer of the year

LATHAM — New York Army National Guard Sgt. Caitlin Johnson of Johnstown, has been named Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year by the 369th Sustainment Brigade, according to a news release.

Johnson, who joined the New York Army National Guard in January 2014, serves as an intelligence analyst and human resource specialist in the 104th Military Police Battalion. She was selected for the honor following a competition held Feb. 23 through 25, at Camp Smith Training Site near Peekskill.

She will compete against other sergeants from around the state for the New York Army National Guard honors in April. The winner of that competition goes to a regional event as part of the effort to find the best non-commissioned officer in the Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserve, the news release stated.

She is currently assigned as a full-time guard soldier at the headquarters of the 104th Military Police Battalion in Kingston, Ulster County; taking classes online with the State University of New York’s Empire State College.
